on Giving Cheerfully

Your generosity will be tested in times of hardship. Are you willing to help even if you don’t have enough? Will you go borrow money from other just to lend it to someone who’s in the hospital or to someone who is in financial trouble? For me, there’s no question about it if it involves family members. We’ll go all the way to help them as much as we can.

We’re in financial challenge this week. My mom-in-law was brought to hospital last Sunday because she’s coughing up of sputum that contain blood. You see, she’s diagnosed with TB before and was under medication but I’m not quite sure if she’s taken the medicine religiously. We we’re told that she’ll be confined in the hospital for 2 weeks to a month and she needs 1,632 Php per injection per night!

At first, we don’t know where to get the needed money. Though we’re living abroad , we’re not rich financially. Honestly, we don’t have savings in bank. We’re living with enough- no more, no less. If we have little extra we send it to our family instead of spending it for ourselves. We don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure, we give with all our heart because we love our family. We ask for direction on where to borrow money. Yes, borrowing is our best option. Borrowing from our friends is impossible because they also don’t have. They already sent whatever they have to their family. This is the reality of OFW. We worked not only for our own family but also for our family back home in Philippines. So what’s our best option. My hubby borrowed from his Thai friend. He borrowed 20,000 Thb payable for 2 months. Thank God for this. Hope it’s enough to aid my mom-in-law’s hospitalization fees.

When it comes to money matters, I’m really afraid to delve into debt. That’s why if ever necessity arises and we need to borrow money, I’ll pay it back as soon as I got my money . I realized that God allows this situation to happen that involves money so that I may go more mature and wiser in trusting God on how to handle money. Also, to experience on never withholding because times are hard. Honestly, I was thanking God last week for financial breakthroughs. We supposed to start saving starting next month because we already paid all that needs to be paid. But God has other plans for us financially. The Bible teaches that those who set their mind on ‘getting’ always lose, whereas those who set their mind on ‘giving’ always win. The story’s told of a dog walking across a bridge with a bone in his mouth. When he looked down into the river and saw his reflection, he thought it was another dog with a bigger bone. So he jumped in to get it – and drowned.

I’m a Pastor’s kid who’s assigned in a barrio. Though life was hard, my father never forced people to give their offerings and tithes.  We were also told that we don’t rely on people’s money but to God who provides everything. Since money is congealed sweat, coined time, coined talent, negotiable you, it’s one way in which you can give yourself to God. It’s not the only way but it’s a very important way. So Paul writes: ‘Remember this – a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others…Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous…’ (2 Corinthians 9:6-11 NLT).

Unless you practice generosity, there’s no point asking God for more money. He doesn’t pour His blessing into pots, but into pipes; not into reservoirs, but into rivers that let it flow out. Getting the idea?

I write this to inspire myself. I hope you’re inspired too:)

The Importance of Background Check

When you’re hiring a nanny, housemaid or new employees in your company, don’t forget to check their background. In Philippines, upon applying, we’ll include to submit our NBI clearance for criminal background check along with our resume. A Certificate of Good Moral Character from our University is also a must. It’s one way to vouch how reliable we are.To date, the simplest check is to go online and punch in the name of the person to get search engine hits on everything his name is tagged with, from articles he or she wrote to those written about him. Also, it’s best to phone the schools he attended and the offices he used to work in. No matter how charming, disarmingly candid and harmless he or she looks, it’s best to do a thorough background check before you hire anyone. Caution is key. It’s also for your own peace of mind and the safety of co-workers and family. Doing so will prevent future damage like lost equipment, stolen valuables , whisked away documents or worse people get hurt!
