on mats and floor mats

There are lots of cheap cotton handwoven floor mats available in the department store. We’ve used these types of floor mats before but it didn’t last long. The floor mats are not worth cleaning. It’s impractical to hire a professional in-home carpet cleaner. After 6 months to 1 year, the mats get dirty and unpresentable so we don’t have a choice but to toss them away. Now, we’re in need of a perfect mat in our bedroom. I searched the web and I stumbled on wellness mats.

One of the features that I love about a wellness mat is being inherently anti-microbial. When you have a child in the house, you’re always looking forward to use things that won’t get dirty easily , are snap to clean or resistible to stains and dirt.

Jack of All Trades

One of the tips of to create great relationship with your hubby is to let them know that they are appreciated and they’re important. For me, I really appreciate my hubby’s capacity in plumbing, carpentry, painting, gardening, photography and driving jobs! Yeah, he can be a man of all trades and master of them all:) He also manage his time well. Good example of this was last week. He was asked to drive the church’s van to meet the family of our friends who came from Philippines. That day, he was also doing a finishing job on his mini-pond in our front yard and some editing on his photos. Before picking them up, he edit some nature photos to be submitted to Pixoto. Then, leave it when it’s time to pick the visitors at the train station. After lunch, he made a drainage pipe for the pond in case it will rain. He’s half-done around 3:00 PM. He left it again to buy van’s side mirror at  toyota accessories store before sending the family to Songkhla. He’s back at home around 5 PM and finished the job left around 7 PM. It’s time again for us to leave the house and join our visitors for dinner at Lee Garden’s Hotel Sky Buffet. We’re at home around 9:30 PM and it rained so hard. He was glad he’s done with the drainage because if the mini-pond overflows, our little fish might be flowed out with the water. Thank God for my man who’s jack of all trades:)

Freshen Up Your Home with Flowers

Flowers aren’t just for decoration. Aside from their aesthetic appeal, flowers also freshen up your home with their wonderful scents. Fresh flowers are always much better than air fresheners with artificial floral scents. Freesias, roses, tuberose, lilies and gardenias are among the most fragrant ones. Freesias are so easy to grow that you may want to plant them in your garden. Avoid lilies though if there’s anyone in the house who’s allergic to pollen.

Next time you pass by a flower shop or stand, grab a few blooms and surround your home with a subtle floral scent. Oh, and don’t forget to grab some fragrances from rosebud perfume co to keep you smelling fresh all day.

The day I thank God for Plumbers and Pipe Repair!

Something happened yesterday that made me thank God for the plumbers!

Early morning yesterday while I’m taking a bath, I heard a loud noise suggesting that something ceramic is broken! When I get out from the bathroom I saw my brother limping half unclad! You guess it right. He’s using the old toilet seat downstairs and it broke to pieces!

We called the plumber of the house and I appreciated the quick response. We called him around 6:30 am and he’s at home around 8:00 am. For less than an hour, he finished setting up the newly-bought toilet seat.  To maximize his time, we also let him do some pipe repair of the leaky faucet in the kitchen and the clogging of the toilet upstairs.

You see, never underestmate the job of plumbers! Without them, who would do the dirty jobs for us?

However, there are preventative plumbing maintenance we can learn by own to help us save a lot of money by preventing the need for large repairs.

Bathroom Maintenance:

1. Do not flush tissue paper, cotton balls, facial tissues or make-up pads,  sanitary products or even loose hair in your toilet. Obviously, these items  do not dissolve and can clog the lines. Toss them away in your trash container in your bathroom.

2.  See to it that your strainers are fitted to catch hair and soap chips. Clean the strainers regularly.

3. Once a week run hot water down the drain to help keep it free-flowing.

Kitchen Maintenance:

1. Never put your carrot peels , mango peels , fibers of your string beans or even fish scales and poultry skins into your garbage disposer. Throw them directly to your trash container.

2.  After frying , don’t just pour used oil down the drain. Dispose them directly in the trash. Then, wipe congealed grease from pots and pans with a paper towel and dispose of in the trash.3. Run cold water down the drain for 15 seconds before and after using the garbage disposer to flush waste through the line.

Homeowners shouldn’t overlooked the importance of the plumbing system in the home. Like owning an automobile, your home also needs regular maintenance and upkeep. Don’t hesitate to choose a trusted plumber- not just a plumber in name but someone who’s highly skilled professional trained not only to unclog toilets and install new faucets. He should be someone who can  protect your home from damage.

The anglepoise lamp was created in 1932 by the British designer George Carwardine. The excellent design is famous for it’s balance arm design, which provides optimum functionality. There are various sellers of this lamp design, but none more experienced or qualified than London’s Geoffrey Harris.

The Anglepoise design was conceived whilst George Carwardine was working as a design consultant for suspension systems in cars. The different tools that were used whilst working on car suspension caused him to conceive of a mechanism that could be used in other fields. He used this mechanism to create a highly functional lamp, where the stem could be moved to wherever the user needed it to be. This ingenious design is a simple bit of design brilliance. They are now available across the world and are used in interior design as floor lighting.

In the late 40’s the Anglepoise lamp was involved in a small controversy. In 1948, the head of the varieties department at the BBC, Michael Standing, was asked to create a set of moral guidelines and protocols to eradicate smut and vulgarity from programs on the BBC.

He undertook the task with extreme zeal. By 1949, staff at the BBC were forbidden to light a room with a Anglepoise lamp unless there was other lighting in a room. Michael Standing believed that letting his writers sit in a room only dimly lit by an Anglepoise would cultivate vulgar thoughts, which would then find their way into BBC programming.

So if you are after designer lighting in London, look no further than Geoffrey Harris. Situated in South London, Battersea, you can visit the quaint little shop to check out the range in person or visit the website to browse from the comfort of your own home. Free delivery for all orders over £30.
